Leeds midfielder denies moving to Manchester United: Huge relief for the Whites?

The Daily Star has provided an update regarding Leeds midfielder, Kalvin Phillips’ move to Manchester United. The report says that Kalvin Phillips will not be joining Manchester United as the England international is aware of how Leeds fans can react. The Red Devils are desperate for a holding midfielder and Kalvin Phillips emerged as one of their top targets. The 25-year-old helped England reach the final of Euro 2020.

Moreover, he is the star and only positive of Leeds United this season. The Whites themselves are struggling a lot this season and Phillips is the one who is holding it together. Furthermore, it is a huge ask for any player to snub a £60 million deal to Old Trafford. However, the Leeds midfielder had to make that choice as he is mostly concerned about Leeds fans targeting his family. Previous similar transfers like Cantona, Ferdinand, and Alan Smith have caused dangerous reactions from Leeds fans which is very unsafe in today’s world.

Kalvin Phillips does fit United’s requirement, although it is very unlikely for the transfer to take place. The Leeds midfielder himself is not ready for a move to Manchester how would the fans be?, however, Phillips snubbing a move to United is a huge boost for Leeds.

Why the Leeds midfielder denying a move to Manchester United may interest other clubs?

Kalvin Phillips does not have any intention to leave Leeds for Manchester United. As a result, this can cause other big clubs to generate great interest in the Leeds midfielder. Clubs like Liverpool have now got an advantage over United for the English midfielder. Moreover, Leeds and Liverpool do not have a rivalry as fierce as Leeds and United which is also an advantage for Liverpool. He had played an important role in England’s march towards the final of Euro 2020. Phillips also has got himself a goal and an assist this season at Leeds while also hugely contributing in defense.

In the Premier League, Kalvin Phillips has been a steady performer at the heart of the Leeds midfield, averaging 2.4 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 0.8 clearances, 0.9 shots, and 0.6 crucial passes per 90 minutes. He even has an 83.2% passing success rate in the league which shows how well he distributes the ball (via whoscored). Therefore, Leeds are very lucky that he has decided to stay at Elland Road and not move to Manchester United.

Manchester United are now forced to look elsewhere as the Leeds midfielder has made his intentions clear. The Whites and United both have a season to recover and apparently both of them need a player like Kalvin Phillips in their midfield. Although Phillips is not leaving Leeds right now that does not mean that he will not leave in near future. Kalvin Phillips may think about leaving if the right offer arrives from a club except for Manchester United.
