Leeds United have recently dropped a hint that they might be looking to leave Tyler Adams out of their plans. Chelsea have been linked to Adams the entire summer. It is now expected that the club plans to make a bid for Adams in the upcoming days. According to reports, Leeds United believe that Adams will leave this summer and therefore, have apparently decided to move on from the American.

Chelsea’s pursuit of Adams has intensified in the last few weeks after their initial attempts to sign Moises Caicedo were unsuccessful. Amidst the interest, Leeds United have dropped a major hint by removing a banner at Ellan Road which contained Tyler Adams’ photos.

Why are Chelsea looking to sign Tyler Adams?

It is still believed that Brighton will stand firm on their £100m price for their Ecuadorian player. Caicedo is also pushing to sign a deal with Chelsea after informing the club he wants to leave. He was even dropped from Brighton’s final few pre-season games after this.

Chelsea’s desire to sign Caicedo is still strong. However, offering such a huge amount is still a big challenge for them. Chelsea reportedly had even made a list of alternatives for Moises. Tyler Adams is said to be Chelsea’s priority, in case they fail to sign Caicedo this summer.

A cheaper yet a better option for Pochettino?

Due to the relegation last season, Leeds have been forced to send their big and expensive players away from the club. In Adams’ case as well, there is not much they can do to prevent his sale due the release clause in his contract. Chelsea can skip all negotiations with Leeds by directly triggering Adams’ €23m release clause. In comparison to Caicedo’s fee, Tyler’s signing amount is extremely low. This will save The Blues alot of money and allow them to spend it on buying other players as well.

The American midfielder was linked to Chelsea last summer as well. He possesses the qualities and abilities that The Blues want in their midfield. His flexible playing style will be very effective in Mauricio Pochettino’s system. Even though Adams does not have the same level of high defensive work rate and physicality as Caicedo does, Tyler’s versatility can be a big asset for Chelsea. He can even provide the creativity required in Chelsea’s midfield. On top of that, Adams has more experience of playing in the Premier League than Moises Caicedo does.

Despite Adams offering more as a player, Chelsea are currently looking just for a strong and an effective defensive midfielder. The fact of the matter is that Caicedo comes across as a better option than Adams for The Blues in their need of a DM. His playing nature is like an ‘engine‘, which reminds Chelsea of Ngolo Kanté.
