Lewis Hamilton deems Verstappen as ‘almost unbeatable’

Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes were no match to Max Verstappen and Red Bull the whole 2022 season.

Max Verstappen showcased yet another dominating performance at the 2022 Italian Grand Prix. The Dutchman started from the 7th to take the checkered flag in P1. He now possesses a mammoth lead of 116 points over his rival Charles Leclerc.

Verstappen won at Monza for the first time in his career. However, it was his 11th win of the season moving closer to equaling the record of most wins held jointly by Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher of 13 wins with 6 more races to go.

Lewis Hamilton himself drove an excellent recovery drive coming home in P5 after starting back in P19. The Briton was later asked if he had a chance to win the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix, to which he replied:

“We have to be realistic, that Red Bull is almost unbeatable,”

said Hamilton.

“It’s going to take some real doing to beat that car. Performance-wise, they are fully ahead of everyone.”

Mercedes has made significant progress coming close to winning on a couple of occasions. However, the team still lacks the pace to challenge the Bulls and Verstappen:

“We have not caught them, we don’t have upgrades coming to overtake them so it’s going to take some fortune going our way,”

he added.

“It’s not impossible because we could have beaten them maybe in Budapest.

“But he’s generally chilled at the front so you never know their true pace. We’ll see.”

Lewis Hamilton is mathematically out of the World Championship title fight after the Italian Grand Prix. Even after winning all the remaining races, Lewis Hamilton cannot catch Max Verstappen.

Verstappen could be crowned the world champion at the Singapore Grand Prix.
