Lingard refuses West Ham to fight for a place at Man United

Jesse Lingard has chosen Manchester United and will not be returning to West Ham United this summer. He has reportedly made his decision clear to the Hammers.

The 28-year-old spent the latter half of the 2020-21 campaign on loan at the Hammers from Manchester United. There, he found the net 9 times and registered 5 assists in 16 appearances to complete a highly successful spell.

His performances helped David Moyes’ men secure a 6th-place finish in the Premier League. West Ham were keen to have him back at the club on a permanent basis before they acquired Nikola Vlasic on deadline day.

Lingard picks United and will fight

West Ham United did not make a late push for Jesse Lingard in the transfer window. He too made it clear to the club that he did not want to return to the London Stadium.

It was expected that the Hammers would attempt to take him back for this campaign, either on a permanent deal or on another loan. They did make an approach. However, with Lingard’s decision, they had to alter their plans.

West Ham proved, with the signing of midfielder Nikola Vlasic, they had the finances to bring Lingard in. They paid a reported £25,000,000 for the Croatian and handed him a contract worth around £100,000-a-week.

The 28-year-old Lingard is now back at United. But his chances to land regular place seem extremely with Sancho and Ronaldo arriving.

Solskjaer revealed Lingard was a player he was in fact planning to keep and could be important to his squad. Though, so far this season, he has been a substitute twice – coming on just once for four minutes at Southampton.

Lingard also attracted interest from abroad during the summer window. Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan showed interest in the forward. He has less than a year on his current deal but looks to battle it out and earn a new contract at Old Trafford.

Sources state that Lingard will revisit the situation in January when things are clearer and evaluate where he stands at Manchester United and with Solskjaer.
