Liverpool 2-2 Tottenham: Player ratings for Liverpool

The Sunday night showdown between the Premier League giants did not disappoint at all. Liverpool and Tottenham played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Just like many other clubs in the Premier League, Liverpool and Tottenham were hit with a Covid-19 outbreak before the game. Both the clubs saw some big hitters miss out on the starting lineup. Tyler Morton got his first start in the Premier League for Liverpool. Virgil van Dijk and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg both missed out on the clash.

Harry Kane landed the first blow of the game. He scored from a Tanguy Ndombele’s through pass and calmly slotted it past Alisson. Son Heung-min had a good chance to hit Liverpool for their second goal but failed to bounce on the opportunity. Liverpool had good chances of their own and Diogo Jota levelled the proceeding with a brilliant placed header in the 35th minute.

In the second half, Harry Kane had two good chances to restore Tottenham’s lead but failed to convert. Andy Robertson scored the 2nd goal for Liverpool from Alexander-Arnold’s drilled cross. Spurs did however come back with the help of a horrible mistake by Alisson and Son Heung-min pounced on the opportunity and levelled the game at 2-2.

The drama didn’t stop there as Andy Robertson saw a red card after a review from VAR in the 77th minute. Spurs pushed hard for the winner in the final minutes but failed to make the 10 man Liverpool team pay.

Player ratings for Liverpool

Alisson: 6

Alisson made some really important saves against Dele Alli in the first half, and Kane in the second half but also made a mistake leading to the Spurs 2nd goal.

Andrew Robertson: 7

The Left-back had a real mixed bag. He assisted Diogo Jota for the 1st goal and scored the 2nd goal for Liverpool. But was sent off in the 77th minute after a horrible challenge.

Joel Matip:

Bith the Centre-halves looked out of their depths against Son and Kane. The right-hand channel was exploited a lot by Spurs.

Ibrahima Konate:

The French international looked shaky up against the Tottenham front line. Overall a very unconvincing performance.

Trent Alexander-Arnold: 7

Had a good shot saved by Hugo Lloris in the first half. Assisted Andrew Robertson with a drilled cross for the Liverpool 2nd goal.

Tyler Morton: 6

The youngster did really well for his first Premier League start but struggled to cope with the pace of the game.

James Milner: 6

The veteran struggled to keep up with the pace of the Spurs counter attacks. He filled in at Left-back when Robertson went on his attacking adventures.

Naby Keita: 5

Keita didn’t see much of the ball and just like his midfield partner was bypassed by the Spurs frontline way too easily.

Mohamed Salah: 6

Salah had an off day for the first time in a long while. Nothing quite seemed to work for the Egyptian on the day.

Sadio Mane:

A slow day at the office just like Salah and his decision making was a bit questionable at times.

Diogo Jota: 7

Another headed goal for the Portuguese forward. Looks set to keep Roberto Firmino out of the starting line-up.
