Liverpool’s engine: The Reds have found a indefatigable player in Wataru Endo

Wataru Endo

Liverpool have found their new James Milner in their latest signing Wataru Endo. Liverpool signed Wataru for £16m from German side Stuttgart. The Japanese international is like an engine in the midfield. However, his his starting days at the club were not very pleasant. There were questions that can he cope up with Premier League. Despite these challenges the midfielder is now settled in his boots at Merseyside. His comparisons with James Milner is now making sense as the English man was also a constant runner. The former legend covered every bit of grass on the field during his days.

Speaking on the LFCTV, the former Reds striker Neil Mellor says Klopp has got his new Milner.

“The manager’s really pleased with him and the fans are as well. Good run in the team from Endo.

Some people have likened him to Milner because he is the person who covers the most ground. It was 11.7 [kilometres] for this game, by far the most of the whole team. Similar sort of numbers against Arsenal. He’s all over the place. In the opposition half as well, he’s right, he’s left, he’s central. Absolutely all over the place. He’s fit, getting about and giving Liverpool good balance.

It was the physicality that Liverpool lacked last season. Fabinho, Henderson and Thiago were not able to run this much on the field. Endo is also not a spring chicken at 30, but he can still be effective with Liverpool. With upcoming Asian Cup, the Japanese skipper will be on the national duty. The Reds will miss the running engine in the middle of the park for few weeks until he returns.
