Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp praises Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard in an interview on the Liverpool official website.
Odegaard has been impressive for the Gunners this season. He was appointed as captain this summer. Odegaard joined Arsenal from Real Madrid for £30m in the summer of 2021.
He has been pretty consistent this season and has earned the praise from pundits and managers. He has total of nine appearances in all competitions and has scored three goals.
Klopp revealed that he spoke to Norwegian when he was a teenager:
“Martin Odegaard, I spoke to him when he was 15 from Norway when the whole world wanted him and he decided for Real Madrid. I remember as it would have been yesterday that we sat on a table with his dad and we were all so excited.”
Odegaard spent most of his time on the loan while being a Real Madrid player. The loan spell to Arsenal in 2020 managed him to get attention from the gunners from which he joined Emirates on a permanent deal.
“Then came a few difficult years, which is normal when you are that much in the spotlight. So, he became the player everybody expected him to be that time.”
,Klopp added.
Arsenal midfielder revealed his love for Liverpool
Martin Odegaard revealed he was on the radar for Liverpool before joining Real Madrid in 2015. At that time he has always loved Liverpool. He has named Liverpool as his dream club.
He said (via Liverpool Echo):
“Liverpool have always been my dream club. But I will not let this affect my decision when I choose a new club.”
An impressive performance against Liverpool
Liverpool met Arsenal in Emirates on 9 October over a loss of 3-2. Martin Odegaard has a terrific performance for the gunners. He set up Gabriel Martinelli with a beautiful through pass in just a minute to provide the lead for the gunners. He pretty much controlled the midfield at Emirates.
