Liverpool skipper Virgil Van Dijk refuses to speak on the Premier League title race

Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk refuses to comment on the Premier League title race. Virgil was speaking after the game of Liverpool against Newcastle United. The Reds comfortably won the game 4-2 on the first day of 2024 and cemented their top spot more firmly. This is a great result looking at the previous campaign of the club. The Merseyide club faced a huge overhauling in the summer with huge incomings and outgoings. Moreover, the fans will be happier to see their side above the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal in the table as well.

Despite all the excitement, Virgil restricts himself from making any prediction of title. He said on the Liverpool ECHO after the game against Newcastle on Monday that,

“I’m not going to speak about any of this, I never did and I won’t do it now either. It’s far too early to do that. We are at the start of January, we have players leaving now, we have players coming back from injury, so let’s see what it brings.

If in February or March we are still up there obviously we have to get the last push going and see if we can squeeze it out. But for now, we just focus on the game ahead and don’t look at others, (and just) try to improve ourselves. That’s always been the experience and it brought us one success over the last six years to win the Premier League. Hopefully we will see what happens at the end of the season.”

Liverpool skipper has every right to be cautious. The club has been in the similar situations previously as well losing to Manchester City by rarest of margins. With players like Mo Salah and Endo leaving for National duty, it will be another challenge for them. If Klopp can still manage to be on the top then they are surely serious title contenders. Nevertheless, the performance from the club has surely excited the fans. They will now be fantasizing a title glory for the second time under German manager for sure.
