Lucas Torreira Is An Option For Jose Mourinho’s Roma

As we have known for quite some time now, Lucas Torreira is on his way out of Arsenal. Roma are interested in his signature, but face competition from Juventus.

Torreira was a crucial part of the Arsenal squad during the Unai Emery days. However, Mikel Arteta has sparingly used him due to him being poor on the ball. The Spanish tactician favours more technical midfielders. As a result, the Uruguyan international spent the last few seasons hopping around on loan to Atletico Madrid and Fiorentina respectively.

Torreira had a good time in Florence as he helped them to a 7th place finish. The Viola wanted to make his signing permanent but lacked the funds to do so. As a result, Torreira is back in North London without a club.

However, according to Calciomercato, Roma and Arsenal have spoken about a potential transfer. Georginio Wijnaldum is still Roma’s top priority for the midfield position. The Conference League champions are still keeping an eye on Lucas Torreira as an alternative. Torreira’s deal with the Gunners is set to expire next year, and Arsenal might accept a bid of about €10 million to part with him.

Except in the unlikely event that the midfielder is willing to stay at the Emirates for an additional year, the Gunners are unlikely to accept a loan structure for Torreira. Since he is in the final year of his contract, they would like to receive some money for him.

Where Should Torreira Go?

Many clubs can make use of a player like Torreira. He is a highly energetic player who runs endlessly in the midfield to win balls back. Although he may not fit the profile Arteta demands, there are many other clubs that would love to have him. Jose Mourinho is a fan of hard workers, and there is no reason to believe he would be averse to the signing.

As an alternative, Juventus have been Juventus is another potential destination for the Uruguayan. Arsenal have been interested in Arthur Melo for quite some time now and may offer Torreira in a cash-plus-player deal.
