Man City considering Hwang Hee-chan bid: Perfect striker for Pep?

According to the Mirror, Man City are targeting on-loan RB Leipzig striker Hwang Hee-chan. The South Korean is currently on loan with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.

The striker joined RB Leipzig in 2020, but failed to nail down a spot in the starting line-up ahead of the likes of Christopher Nkunku, Dani Olmo, and Emil Forsberg. Following this, he was sent out on loan to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer.

Since joining Wolves. he has looked like a completely different player than what we saw in the Bundesliga the year before. Hwang has bagged four goals for Wolves in just eight Premier League appearances so far this season.

Raul Jiminez has just recently returned from a nasty injury setback and is still figuring out his game after the skull injury. But Hwang Hee-chan has taken the pressure of Jiminez’s shoulders with his attacking output and all-around game. Raul Jiminez and Hwang Hee-chan have formed a good partnership up top for Bruno Lage’s team.

His impressive display in front of goal has seen him catch the eyes of Premier League giants like Manchester City and Liverpool. While it is reported that Wolves are desperate to activate the loan-to-buy clause in Hwang’s contract. The loan deal can be made permanent for a fee of around £12.8 million. Wolves are ready to activate the clause to keep him at the club amid the interest from Manchester City.

Is Hwang Hee-chan the perfect striker signing for Man City?

Manchester City are currently without an out-and-out number 9 in their squad. Gabriel Jesus is the only recognizable number 9 in the squad but he is being played as a right-winger and has excelled in that position. While Ferran Torres has played as the number 9 at times for City. But for the most part of the season, Pep Guardiola has preferred to play with a false 9.

With Raheem Sterling looking for a move away from the Etihad, Pep Guardiola is keen to add new attacking options to his books at City. Manchester City are also in the market for a striker to add to Pep’s options if he decides to switch up the false 9 system.

Chan has a great pace and has a positioning sense. On top of this, he has already shown that he is quite clinical in front of goal and can take on take on defenders if needed. On paper, he has the attributes to succeed at Manchester City.

The only question can be if City can offer Hwang Hee-chan quality game time. With the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Ferran Torres, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish already at the club, Chan would struggle to get any real game time as compared to what Wolves are offering.

If Wolves manage to make the loan deal permanent, it would be very difficult to lure the South Korean striker away from the Molineux.
