Man United player ratings as scrap out a draw against Atletico Madrid

Here we have with us the Man United player ratings as play out a lucky draw against Atletico Madrid. Manchester United were not at all in the game before the second half. Nothing was going right for the English club. On the other hand, Atletico Madrid brought their game and were completely over Manchester United with their high intensity.

Atletico Madrid were quick to find the net in the 7th minute of the game. Atletico had a corner cleared by Lindelof but Renan Lodi was present to pick up the ball. A pinpoint ball from the Brazilian inside the box to Joao Felix who got away from Harry Maguire. The Portuguese attempted a diving header that hit the inside of the post and went across the line.

Atletico Madrid hit the post just before halftime as the ball came quickly towards Vrsaljko who failed to get good contact on it. Manchester United had only two shots on target and one was the goal they scored through their new super-sub Anthony Elanga. Fred found Bruno Fernandes free who played in a simple pass towards Elanga.

Elanga found himself one on one against Oblak as Reinildo’s failed attempt to make a tackle helped Elanga. The youngster then calmly slotted the ball behind Jan Oblak with his first touch of the game in the 80th minute. United will be happy with their result after seeing their performance since they were clearly outperformed by the Spanish side.

Man United player ratings vs Atletico Madrid

David de Gea – 6/10

Failed to come out and clear early on in the game while also messing up a goal kick. However, there was nothing he could do to save the goal.

Victor Lindelof – 4/10

Was a gamble of starting him at the right and Atletico exploited this weakness of United. Lindelof failed to live up to the stakes of this gamble.

Raphael Varane – 5/10

Very silly mistakes in the first half and lack of communication. However, he found himself in the second half and performed better.

Harry Maguire – 5/10

Should have marked Felix better when United conceded the goal but the cross and header were on point from Atletico Madrid. Improved after the break.

Luke Shaw – 5/10

Did not have a great impact either in defense or in attack for United. He is still not a guaranteed starter ahead of Telles.

Fred – 4/10

Had a role of playing at the back of a midfield where he is not particularly comfortable as seen in recent times. A poor performance again from the Brazilian with a few mistakes.

Paul Pogba – 3/10

Paul Pogba had just one moment to his name throughout the game when he found Bruno Fernandes in the box. However, nothing went to his side, and was also muscled out quite often by Kondogbia.

Bruno Fernandes – 6/10

Had a very poor start to the game and was getting frustrated as usual with time. However, he assisted United’s goal which must have calmed him to some extent.

Marcus Rashford – 3/10

Again a very poor display from Rashford as he is failing at take-ons, shots, passes at everything, and was substituted rightly.

Jadon Sancho – 5/10

Had a few purposeful runs but his teammates failed to match his energy at times. Moreover, he struggled at finding and creating space on either flank.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 4/10

No support at all to the man who caused fear among Atletico fans. Had to drop back in the game to get some touches and help the team.

Substitutes

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6/10

Performed better than Lindelof at the right-hand side also got space at times which created a few openings.

Alex Telles – 6/10

Great skill in the dying minutes of the game and put in a few good crosses but no one at the end of it.

Nemanja Matic – 7/10

His introduction gave better control to United in the midfield.

Anthony Elanga – 8/10

Equalized beautifully with a calm and composed finish. Looked better than Rashford in the 15 minutes he got.

Jesse Lingard – N/A

Was not able to influence the match but still had a shot on target at the end from outside the box.
