Manchester City Rejects PSG Swap Offer for Bernardo Silva

Manchester City

Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) pursuit of Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva through a proposed swap deal involving Marco Verratti and Gianluigi Donnarumma has been unsuccessful. Silva recently won the Champions League with Manchester City. He remains under contract until 2025, making it challenging for PSG to secure his services. PSG’s interest in Bernardo Silva is well-known, and reports have also suggested that the Portuguese international would be keen to join the Parisian club. However, the French champions will need to explore other avenues to convince Manchester City to part ways with their coveted midfielder.

Manchester City’s Determination to Retain Silva

PSG reportedly offered Marco Verratti and Gianluigi Donnarumma to City as part of the negotiations for Bernardo Silva. Despite the prominence of both Verratti and Donnarumma in PSG’s first team, Manchester City swiftly rejected the proposed trades.

Manchester City, the reigning English champions, hold significant leverage in any transfer negotiations involving Bernardo Silva. With his current contract expiring in 2025, the club has the power to resist any potential departure. PSG has tried to lower the transfer fee for Silva by offering players in return, including Verratti, Donnarumma as well as Neymar previously. Yet, Manchester City’s strong attachment to Silva, particularly from Pep Guardiola, poses a hurdle for PSG’s pursuit.

Bernardo Silva Interested in PSG?

Following Manchester City’s Champions League triumph over Inter Milan, Silva was evasive when questioned by TF1 about his future, stating:

“Honestly, I don’t know. We’ll see what happens in the next few weeks and months. But right now we need to celebrate …”

However, Bernardo Silva has emerged as a key transfer target for Paris Saint-Germain. Other reports have suggested that the Portuguese midfielder is open to a move. Following a disappointing season, PSG aims to revitalize their squad and enhance their playing style. PSG recognizes the need to bring in talented players to achieve their ambitions. The Ligue 1 giants, through their Portuguese sporting advisor Luís Campos, have expressed their interest in the midfielder and initiated discussions. Silva’s recent Champions League triumph with Manchester City has increased his appeal.

Paris St-Germain have been interested in a move for Bernardo Silva for some time. They see the Portuguese as a replacement for the departing Lionel Messi. While earlier reports suggested that Silva was considering staying at Manchester City after a potential move to Barcelona fell through, PSG are reportedly willing to offer improved personal terms to entice Silva.
