City are readying an offer for versatile centre back Marc Cucurella
Manchester City are on the verge of making a move for versatile full-back Marc Cucurella of Brighton Hove Albion. Cucrella can play as a centre back or as a left-back, depending on where the team needs him. He is a fullback who can hold his own in both positions with ease. Moreover, City were monitoring Cucurella from the start of the transfer window to alleviate their left back troubles.
Oleksandr Zinchenko is primarily a midfielder. However, Pep Guardiola deploys him mainly as a left-back due to an overload of quality in the midfield. Arsenal are eyeing a move for the Ukrainian and are even close to signing him this summer. This means Pep Guardiola could do with singing a left-back for the team.
Marc Cucurella is a great option for this. He is similar to Zinchenko in his passing style and ball advancement. This makes him a great replacement for Zincheko. Moreover, he is a proper and versatile defender whereas Zinchenko is primarily a midfielder.
Cucurella would add quality to an already dangerous team
City played the last season without the services of a left-back. The left-back position was mainly given to Zinchenko or Cancelo. This is not the natural position for either of the player. However, Cucurella is a natural wingback who can be deployed as a center back too. City could do well by signing the player to their team.
Brighton are going to demand a fee of £ 50 million for the player from City. However, it is unlikely that Manchester City will pay this amount for the defender. City have done well even without signing a left-back. Cucrella is a target of City, however, he is not a priority as things stand. He might add depth to an already amazing team but his price tag is apparently too much for City to spend this summer.
