As per recent reports by ABC Sevilla, Manchester United are looking to sign Jules Kounde in the January transfer window. The Sevilla defender is being chased down by many clubs but the Red Devils seem to be most eager.

The Frenchman has been in top form since he joined Sevilla. He has now emerged as the first-team centre back for the Spanish side and is one of the best young CBs in the world at present. While his performances in the last few seasons have caught the eyes of many.

He has also represented his country in several competitions and has been in top form. The Sevilla man is just 22-year-old and is already a huge prospect in European football. On the other hand, Manchester United are currently struggling to perform and their defence looks to be needing new addition, despite signing Raphael Varane this summer.

With their defense all over the place, Manchester United are looking all over the place for a new defender

The Red Devils are in dreaded form this season as they sit 6th in the Premier League table. They also had a dicey start to their Champions League campaign after losing to BSC Young Boys in their first game.

While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s management is continuously being blamed, but it can also be said that the players have not been up to the mark. While the team has only been able to keep 1 clean sheet in their last 11 league games. They were also thrashed 5-0 by rivals Liverpool, which is rare for a top tier team like United.

The addition of Raphael Varane to the team has also not helped much with him facing back-to-back injuries and thus is now currently out for a month. While Harry Maguire is often criticized for his performance, being the team’s captain and the heart of the defence fans expect him to be the best in his position. The only support Maguire gets is from either Victor Lindelof or Eric Bailly, while both of them are underperforming.

Could Jules Kounde help out Manchester United in improving their defence?

Now that Ole has shifted to 3 CB formation, Jules Kounde could prove to be pivotal in the defence. He was Sevilla’s main stopper in their Europa League winning campaign of 2019/2020. While the 22-year-old defender also won the Nations League with France this year.

After failing to strike a deal with Chelsea earlier this year, Sevilla are believed to be asking for a huge amount close to £80m for the Frenchman. The Red Devils have to pay up the £68m release clause with an extra £12m which is well deserved by the player, considering his excellent performances.

It is believed that in the 3 CB formation, Kounde could effectively work with his French teammate Raphael Varane at United. While playing in the middle of the formation, Varane could actively guide and link up with Kounde, to increase the team’s defensive output. Kounde’s intensity complemented by Maguire and Varane’s experience would surely solidify the struggling Red Devil’s defence.
