According to Daily Mail, the Manchester United board respect Conte as a great coach but did not think that the players would suit his style. Conte was heavily linked with United before Ralf Rangnick took over as the interim manager. However, the Italian was appointed as the new Tottenham manager instead.

Conte has had success wherever he went however it will be tough for him to bring a trophy at Tottenham. Moreover, he can demand more support and funds from the board which Spurs are willing to offer him. Whereas United could not have afforded that after they recently had a spending spree.

Moreover, he can be a bit strict with his players if they are not delivering what he wants. No Manchester United fan would like to see Ronaldo on the bench and even a player like Ronaldo wouldn’t like it. This could have increased rifts among the manager and the fans or the manager and the players which could have made the job tougher for Conte.

Many players could have failed at just that which could have resulted in bad outcomes. Moreover, United may or may not have the right players that Conte needs in his system and would have asked for more recruitments early on.

Why Conte was not the right choice for Manchester United at this moment?

Manchester United had already spent a lot in the summer signing the likes of Ronaldo, Varane, and Sancho. They expected to complete this season under Solskjaer but however, that was not the case. The players at United are currently according to the need of Solskjaer and his system.

Conte mostly plays a 3-4-3 or a 3-5-2 formation. Both formations require great wingbacks and holding midfielders. United have neither of them and would have taken more time than Spurs to adapt to Conte. Moreover, Conte wants all of his players to increase their intensity and work hard. However, there were several questions asked about Ronaldo’s pressing and the work rate of some other players.

Conte could have gotten frustrated at Manchester United and he is a manager who can leave if the board does not meet his demands. Moreover, he is not a long-term manager but a manager who brings short-term success to a club. However, that short-term success can leave the club in a financial hole for a long time.

The United board now must not think about ‘what could have’ or ‘what could have been’ instead they should work over what’s next. Richard Arnold will take over Ed Woodward as the CEO of Manchester United. He should learn a lot from United’s past mistakes and should try his best to avoid mistakes in the future.
