According to the Manchester Evening News, five players are likely to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window. All of these five players are currently suffering from a lack of form or lack of game time. Consequently, these players now wish to leave the club in January.

Anthony Martial has already expressed his desire to leave and is likely to find a new club in January. Moreover, Jesse Lingard is another forward who wants to switch his club and get a fresh start. Both the forwards now look out of favour at United and did not get enough game time. As a result, they seek a move to a different club to revive their career.

Donny van de Beek is also linked with a move away from Old Trafford for quite a few months now. He has not got a good amount of playtime under Rangnick also and could end up leaving the club. In addition, the number two goalkeeper Dean Henderson can also leave as he wants to start more and it looks tough for him to start at United given De Gea’s remarkable current form.

Finally, there is Paul Pogba who is constantly linked with a move away from the club. However, United are only willing to let him leave if a good deal is offered for the Frenchman. Manchester United will look forward to get good cash in return for these players.

Why is Manchester United trimming the first team in the January transfer window?

A new era has started at Manchester United after the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Ralf Rangnick has taken over as the interim manager and he is a manager who wants control over the club activities. Some players have made up their mind that they won’t get a chance to play under Rangnick and have decided to leave the club.

Moreover, United will need funds in the summer transfer window to support the permanent manager who comes in after Rangnick. These players are also highly paid and have played very small number of games. Therefore, United will offload these players and look to strengthen the squad and make signings that supports the manager’s thoughts.

Rangnick has a different system to that of Solskjaer’s and United had players which are suited more for Solskjaer. As a result, Rangnick will not try get players which fit his profile and deliver him success. Moreover, selling players who are not needed is a major source of income in transfer windows.

This is a crucial period of Manchester United in determining their rest of the season. Losing these players can cost them depth in the squad. Moreover, if they face injuries later in the season then they might suffer to get names on the sheet. In addition, United are also unlikely to make a signing in January which will make this case even worse. However, it will be a positive going into the next season for the new manager.
