Recent reports suggest that Manchester United are currently leading the race for the signature of Olympique Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara. The player has allegedly demanded a fee of £7.8million a year (£150,000 a week) from his next club, which Utd could meet just before the January deadline.
Boubacar is a promising talent in the defensive midfield position. The Frenchman is a regular starter for Marseille, having made 146 appearances for the club. The young prospect has also captained the French side on a few occasions. He has showcased his leadership skills.
Earlier reports also stated that Newcastle United and Aston Villa were showing high interests for the player and were ready to meet the player’s demands. Even Serie A club AC Milan were ready to acquire the Frenchman’s services.
Why Boubacar is a perfect pick for the Man Utd system?
Kamara’s tackling and defensive capabilities are efficient enough to fit in Ragnick’s new pressing system. The infamous “McFred” partnership of Scott McTominay and Fred remains strong at the moment, but is always inconsistent and can fail any moment.
Therefore, Kamara’s introduction could strengthen the Red Devils’ midfield and also provide the manager with a solid DM at his disposal. While being firm on the ground, the youngster is also solid in aerial duels. The player averages 1.6 tackles per game. Another issue which arises from the McFred partnership is the use of 2 DMs to support a backline of 4 defenders. Take out one from the equation and the other simply succumbs to the opposing pressure, making the defense and midfield vulnerable.
Therefore, a single world class DM in the midfield like Boubacar, can be enough to support a 4-3-3 formation. This would open up space for another CAM, which will in turn strengthen the team’s offence.
Should the Red Devils push for Boubacar Kamara?
Even though they are miles behind in the Premier League title race this year, The Red Devils have now entered the top-four bracket once again. Under the management of Ralf Rangnick, Cristiano Ronaldo and his team look forward to securing their Champions League spot in the final stretches of the season.
However, a lack of consistency in the CDM spot still remains a pressing issue with the team’s defence struggling in most games. The likes of Kalvin Philips and Jude Bellingham, were under the Red Devils’ radar, with Kamara being the cheapest option available. Hence, the player’s proven talent and quality will be a great addition to the team.
