Manchester United have officially confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo will be wearing his iconic number 7 at the back this season. As United announced the signing of the Portuguese star the most engaging topic came of what will be his jersey number. As Ronaldo’s know number 7 was worn by Edison Cavani in United. But on Thursday the red devils revealed that Cavani has given his number 7 jersey to Cristiano Ronaldo.
Giving up the number 7, Cavani has taken up the number 21 which he also wears for his national team. Earlier the 21 was reserved for Daniel James in the United team. But the forward has left the club this summer with a 25 million move to Leeds United. Hence the number was vacant and taken up by Cavani this season.
Seeing Cavani’s nice gesture Ronaldo appreciated and thanked the Uruguayan International for giving up the number 7 jersey for him. And with announcing of Ronaldo’s iconic number 7 jersey on Thursday, sales have shot up with fans buying CR7 jerseys.
And a fact to be known is that Premier League eased their rules regarding the jersey numbers for Cristiano Ronaldo. Yes, it is true that Premier League have eased upon United for allocating the number 7 jersey to the Portuguese. As because the rules specify that a player has to continue with the same jersey number allocated to him at the start of the season.
But when it is Ronaldo anything is possible as he is again back to don Manchester United’s number 7 jersey. While we may see his second debut in the United shirt on 11th September as United face Newcastle at Old Trafford.
Sir Alex Ferguson made Ronaldo the CR7 at Manchester United
