Manchester United could retain Greenwood if they fail to find a buyer for him

Manchester United’s forward, Mason Greenwood is currently on loan at La Liga club, Getafe. Although the Red Devils are looking to sell him this summer, there are chances he might stay at Old Trafford. The 22-year-old was charged for assault and rape in October 2022, however, in February 2023 the Crown Prosecution Service announced that the case was discontinued. Additionally, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe as the new minority owner, a fresh decision will be made about Greenwood. However, nothing has been decided about the forward’s future yet.

While asked about the Greenwood situation, Sir Jim Ratcliffe said,

“It’s quite clear we have to make a decision. There is no decision that’s been made.”

Ratcliffe further added,

“He’s on loan obviously, but he’s not the only one – we’ve got one or two footballers that we have to deal with and we have to make a decision on, so we will do that.”

If no suitable offers are given, Man United could retain Mason Greenwood. However, they are expecting deals for the Getafe loan player.

Mason Greenwood’s performance for Getafe this season

The 22-year-old is having a wonderful loan spell at Getafe. Greenwood has 10 goals and 6 assists for Getafe including his brace against Almeria last week. Getafe are hoping to keep Greenwood for another season, however, if Man United receive a good deal for the forward, they will sell him. Manchester United will also be able to make some money if they sell the striker. Moreover, the youngster is emerging as a top target for the upcoming transfer window. Several top clubs including Barcelona are keeping an eye on Greenwood. However, there is no decision made about his future yet. As of now, the striker will focus on Getafe’s next few games as the club are looking to make it in the top six of the La Liga.
