Manchester United’s current captain Harry Maguire has reportedly rejected Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The center-back is looking to turn his Red Devils career around.
The 29-year-old had a difficult last season. He was also criticized for making a number of mistakes in the defense during a disappointing previous campaign for United.

There were also suggestions earlier in the window that the defender’s future was in doubt after the arrival of Erik Ten Hag. Some reports mentioned that Ten Hag also considered taking the armband away from the center-back. However, none of these things have happened. The manager has been full of praise for the former Leicester City center-back. He has also confirmed Maguire as captain for the new season.
There were also rumors of Barcelona’s interest in him. According to reports, Xavi was keen to bring the England international to Camp Nou this summer. The report also states the Catalan side were in touch with his representatives. The defender’s name was discussed in the Frenkie De Jong deal. However, the defender has allegedly made it clear that he wants to stay and turn his Manchester United career around.
THE DEFENDER WILL FIGHT FOR HIS FUTURE AT MANCHESTER UNITED
The report also adds that Harry Maguire is ready to fight for a place in the starting 11. A source close to the defender said to the Mirror, “Some players, especially with some of the criticism flying around, would have been desperate to go if Barcelona came calling. But Harry is unmoved and wants to have a successful season with United,” the newspaper quotes a source close to the defender as saying.
Maguire has been subject to boos from some supporters during the pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia. However, Erik Ten Hag believes has backed the defender to do the talking on the field. He said “Harry has proved it in the past, but he has also to prove it in the present and in the future. I will support him everywhere I can. In the end, he has to do it by himself, and he has the qualities to do it. He’s shown it so often in the past.
Maguire moved to Manchester United from Leicester City in August 2019 in a record-breaking deal. However, the defender has been not able to perform to fans’ high expectations. Harry Maguire still has three years left on his contract with an option of another 12 months.
