It is said that Erik Ten Haag’s first signing at Manchester United could be Darwin Nunez. Signing Nunez would be making a statement by United. Moreover, it could be a perfect response to City’s signing of Haaland.

Nunez is thought to be one of the best strikers in the world right now. Moreover, the Athletic have reported that United are leading the race to sign Nunez. Therefore, United would have a player of the same stature as Haaland. He is young and can be an even match for Haaland.

Though there are few players who can match Haaland- Nunez is thought to be one of them. Former United striker Diego Forlan, “He is a player with a lot of potential, who can fit in well at Manchester United. Obviously patience is needed, although he is improving as he gains more experience. It would be spectacular to see him at United.”

Haaland deal raises the bar for Manchester United

Haaland to United was a deal concocted once upon a time. The Red Devils failed to acquire him when he came from Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund. United has their worse season in a while and they are struggling to hold on to their sixth position in the Premier League.

This meant that Haaland would not be interested in a team which would be going for a complete overhaul next season. Manchester United desperately need a striker for the future. Even if Cristiano Ronaldo stays it would be at most for a year or two. However, other than him, United do not have a traditional striker.

They had thought to groom Mason Greenwood to take that position in the future. However, that plan is now well down the drain. Therefore, the top priority for United would be signing a young striker. Nunez could well fill that gap. His record this season is incredible. He has scored 34 goals in the 41 appearances that he has made.
