FC Barcelona reportedly turned down an £85 million bid from Manchester United for Ansu Fati last summer.

Fati broke into the first team in the 2019-20 campaign at Barcelona. He scored seven goals in 24 La Liga appearances before continuing his flying start in the early stages of the 2020-21 season.

The 18-year-old netted five goals and provided four assists from 10 appearances in all competitions last year. He is currently one of the best and brightest young talents in world football. Unfortunately, he suffered a serious knee injury which has kept him on the sidelines for the past 10 months.

Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman spoke about Fati, saying that the young Spanish international has a bright future in front of him and he needs to recover at his own pace.

Fati back-up plan for Manchester United

As a result of his form in the 2019-20 season, Fati supposedly attracted interest from Manchester United. With the Catalans in financial distress, Manchester United hoped to capitalise with a bid for young prodigy Ansu Fati.

According to AS, the Red Devils offered £85 million for the teenager’s services while they were also attempting to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. However, Barca were nowhere close to sanctioning a sale for their prized asset.

Barcelona are said to have swiftly rejected that proposal, with United instead striking a £73m deal for Sancho in the summer of 2021.

Having failed in their attempt to sign Fati, it remains to be seen if the Manchester club go back for him in the future.

Fati was not the only one Barca had to turn down bids for. They also had to say no to offers for starlets Pedri and Francisco Trincao. Bayern Munich were supposedly after Pedri. There was a substantial offer for Pedri as well according to his agent.

Fati’s current deal at Barcelona is due to expire next summer. But, the Spanish giants are reportedly confident of convincing Fati to agree a new deal with the club.
