Recent reports claim that Manchester United are emerging as a competitor for River Plate forward Julian Alvarez. The Red Devils have reportedly made first contact with the player and will likely make a move in January.

Julian Alvarez has recently grown to fame, after breaking into the scene with a huge stat pad. The Argentine player is typically a center-forward, but can also play as a winger occasionally. The 21-year-old player has become a sensation with his performance and is most likely to make a move out of Argentina.

Alvarez’s performances have brought a lot of attention with clubs like Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich all monitoring the player. With his contract expiring at the end of next year, a European club could swoop in for the Argentine.

Julian Alvarez’s recent success

Julian Alvarez is one of the emerging talents in Argentine football. The 21-year-old striker’s output have been key in his recent success. In 96 appearances, the youngster has 36 goals and 25 assists. However, this season, in 21 appearances the striker has a whopping 18 goals and 7 assists. (stats via TRANSFERMARKT)

The Argentina international has a great passing ability. He has a passing success rate of 79.2% which is good enough for a center-forward. He often makes key passes and big chances for his teammates. The player also likes to dribble a lot leading to him playing as a winger at times. His winger quality is also backed by his efficient crossing ability. His shooting, however, is his biggest asset. With 3.1 shots per game, the player likes to shoot at every given opportunity and also likes to shoot from distance. (stats via WHOSCORED)

The Argentine has also represented his national side in multiple competitions. After playing for Argentina’s U20 and U23, he made his debut for the national football team in this year’s World Cup Qualifiers against Chile. Since then the player has made five appearances for Argentina.

Is Julian a good pick for Manchester United?

After joining the Premier League side, new interim manager Ralf Rangnick has immediately recognized midfield as a troubling issue. As a result, the manager came up with a transfer list targeting big names like Kalvin Philips and Jude Bellingham.

While not fitting in Manchester Utd’s plan, Alvarez is a big prospect to miss out on. Rangnick is highly known for creating teams and players from their roots. Therefore, the manager could polish the player’s attacking capabilities, who could work out well at Old Trafford.

Alvarez is said to have a release clause of £17.07m, which will almost certainly be activated in January.
