Manchester United won’t sell Edinson Cavani after Ronaldo signing

According to reports, Manchester United have no intention of selling Edinson Cavani this summer, following the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus

United announced on Friday that they have reached an agreement with Juventus to re-sign one of their greatest ever players, 12 years after he left the club.

There were strong suggestions that Ronaldo was on his way to the other side of Manchester. City, however, ended their interest in the 36-year-old, clearing the path for their crosstown rivals. United then swooped in and agreed on a deal to bring the Portuguese back to Old Trafford.

Head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now has plenty to choose from in terms of attacking options. Edinson Cavani is likely to compete with Ronaldo for the striker position. According to Manchester Evening News, the Norwegian has no plans to offload Cavani this season. The Uruguayan still has a year left on his contract, and a part to play in United’s immediate future.

Cavani made 39 appearances for United across all competitions last season. During that time, he managed 17 goals and provided 6 assists.

Will Cavani hand over the number 7 shirt to Manchester living legend Ronaldo?

Ronaldo of course wore the number 7 shirt for six years as a Manchester United player. Fans are wondering if he will reclaim the number 7 (currently worn by Edinson Cavani) now that he is back at Old Trafford. It will be interesting to see him wearing the red shades back again.

It has been reported that the Premier League rules state that players must retain the shirt numbers they are registered under unless they either depart or are granted ‘special dispensation’. So it is important to note that such special dispensation has never been granted previously.
