Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick update

Manchester United announced on Monday that Ralf Rangnick would take over as the interim manager until the end of the season.

The German manager was with Lokomotiv Moscow as the head of sports and development. However, Ralf Rangnick will take over as the interim manager at Manchester United for 6 months. Following he will take over a consultancy role once his time in the dugout for two years.

The 63-year-old was the RB Leipzig head coach in 2019. While now he will take over from Michael Carrick as the new head coach of United. Michael Carrick has been in charge of the club since the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The caretaker manager led United to the 2-0 Champions League win over Villareal and 1-1 draw against Chelsea in the Premier League.

Ralf Rangnick told the Manchester United’s official website:

“I am excited to be joining Manchester United and focused on making this a successful season for the club. The squad is full of talent and has a great balance of youth and experience.

“All my efforts for the next six months will be on helping these players fulfil their potential, both individually and, most importantly, as a team. Beyond that, I look forward to supporting the club’s longer-term goals on a consultancy basis.”

Manchester United are currently sitting 8th in the Premier League table. They have picked up just 18 points from 13 league games. But the red devils have already qualified for the knockout rounds of the Champions League after the 2-1 win over Villareal.

Ralf Rangnick’s first game in charge of Manchester United?

The deal to bring in the coach has been announced but the German manager is still waiting for his work visa to travel to England in order to complete his move. Following this, Manchester United fans have to wait until the fixture against Crystal Palace on Sunday to see the first sight of Ralf Rangnick.

But prior to the Sunday fixture, Manchester will get head-to-head against Arsenal on Thursday, and the Red Devils have confirmed that Michael Carrick will stay in the United Dugout for the Premier League clash against the Gunners.

There were a lot of expectations on United after the summer signings of Sancho, Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo. But the story has not gone as planned. Ralf Rangnick arrival at Old Trafford brings in a lot of expectations. United fans are hoping Rangnick can bring his high tempo and high pressing game to Old Trafford. Following which the Red Devils hope to end their long trophy drought soon.
