Ajax’s Jurrien Timber and Villareal’s Pau Torres are the players that Manchester United are interested in signing this summer to strengthen their defence.

The Red Devils had one of their worst seasons since the inception of the Premier League. They have conceded 57 goals in the process.

Therefore, they are widely expected to sign some defenders to bolster their defence this season.

Diego Dalot, Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane, and Harry Maguire are all expected to stay. On the other hand, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Alex Telles, Phil Jones, Eric Bailey, and Axel Tuanzebe are all expected to leave Old Trafford.

Timber and Torres are heavily linked to the Red Devils in recent weeks. Moreover, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed these rumours surrounding these two players.

Romano has reported that the Timber ‘has been discussed internally in the last 48 hours. Moreover, Torres’ name was first discussed in the first internal meeting between the club and manager Erik Ten Haag.

Both Jurrien Timber and Pau Torres had an excellent season with their respective clubs

Timber enjoyed a spectacular season with Ajax. He made 43 appearances for the Dutch giants and scored three goals and two assists in the process.

The teenager has still two years left on his contract. However, he is expected to be available for the right price in the transfer market.

Ten Hag who managed him this season is believed to be willing to bring him to Old Trafford. He, moreover, believes that signing the youngster could make the team return to the older days of glory.

Timber primarily played as a centre-back at Ajax but he is capable of playing in the right-back position as well.

Moreover, this is an area that the Red Devils would want to strengthen this season as Bissaka is projected to leave.

Torres, on the other hand, made 47 appearances for Villareal in all competitions. In the process, he scored six goals and made an assist.

He had been instrumental in taking his team to the semi-final of the Champions League this season.

A recent report claimed that Ten Hag wants the Spanish international ‘at all costs’.

He too has two years left on his contract.
