According to reports, Manchester United have joined the transfer race for Newcastle United target Wesley Fofana.

Wesley Fofana enjoyed a stellar first season at Leicester City. He played a massive part in the FA Cup triumph for Leicester City. He established himself as one of the best centre-halves in the Premier League.

Since the takeover, Newcastle United now will have reported a €190 million budget for the January transfer window. Newcastle have been scouting the likes of Antony Martial, Philippe Coutinho, Eric Bailly, Dembele, and many others. They are keen to bring the young French defender in to improve their defence and also build the team for the future.

While Manchester United already brought a star French centre back into the club in the summer in Rafael Varane. The World Cup winner has been one of the best defenders in the world in the past few years. But since his move has struggled to form an unbreakable partnership at the back with club skipper Harry Maguire.

Fofana can fix Manchester United’s defensive woes

Manchester United have kept just 1 clean sheet in all competitions this season. And Varane is currently on the sidelines after he picked up an injury during the UEFA Nations League final against Spain. So it is clear to see why Manchester United are keeping tabs on Fofana.

Wesley Fofana too picked up a nasty injury during the pre-season and is currently still on the sidelines. But making up good ground in his recovery phase. The young defender is still expected to be out until 2022.

Leicester paid a fee reportedly worth around £30m for Fofana last summer and can expect a considerable profit. Leicester are well known for buying talented players for cheap and developing them. And selling them for massive transfer fees. We can expect the same in this situation.
