Manchester United is intensifying its hunt for a new manager, spurred by recent events involving Erik ten Hag. Thomas Tuchel reportedly desires the position if approached by the club.

After a 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace on Monday, Ten Hag’s struggles intensified. He’s won just two of the last 10 Premier League matches, exited early from the Carabao Cup and Champions League, with only the FA Cup offering hope. They’ll confront Manchester City in the final.

As speculation grows about a possible departure, names like Roberto De Zerbi have surfaced. Thomas Tuchel, described as an ‘unbelievable’ manager, may eye the hot seat if Ten Hag departs, according to David Ornstein.

Ornstein asserted on the Back Pages podcast that Tuchel would entertain the idea of coaching Manchester United, despite their arguably worst season in the Premier League era. Despite their dip in form, the United brand remains resilient.

Manchester United impressed with Tuchel’s portfolio so far

Tuchel’s season against Bayer Leverkusen has been challenging, as they outperformed him domestically. However, he still has a chance to clinch a Champions League trophy if he prevails against Real Madrid in the second leg of the semi-final and his former club Borussia Dortmund in the final in early June.

His success with Chelsea will likely impress Old Trafford chiefs the most if he assumes the vacancy at the Theatre of Dreams. Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard in January 2021 amidst a shaky season start by the Blues legend. He guided them to the FA Cup and Champions League finals, defying the odds by securing a 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the latter, solidifying his place in Chelsea’s history in just five months.

Tuchel’s successful two-year tenure saw him secure top-four finishes both times. Despite losing all three domestic cup finals, he was close to claiming four trophies in 18 months before his dismissal. Such a track record could sway United fans in his favor. However, this season’s struggles at Bayern raise doubts about his current suitability.
