According to Fichajes, Real Madrid are interested in Manchester United midfielder Donny Van de Beek. The Dutchman has struggled extensively to start for Manchester United, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s substitutions and lineups signal that he does not have Donny in his plans. Even though Donny has a contract with United till June 2025, his market value has dropped due to a lack of game-time. Following that, Real Madrid are looking to get an advantage of it.
Manchester United signed the midfielder in the summer of 2020 for €40 million. The hefty price was justified as he was also involved in taking Ajax to the UCL semi-finals in 2018-19. Everyone at Old Trafford was excited to see Donny in a United shirt. But somehow, the transfer has managed to fail miserably. Van de Beek has managed to play only 1,600 minutes of football in the last two years. For a regular Champions League starter, that is very low and should be changed.
Real Madrid are also in a transition phase themselves. They are also facing ageing issues with their squad. Los Blancos were interested in signing the Dutch midfielder in 2020 but were not able because of the losses suffered in the pandemic. They are searching for a replacement for Luka Modric and see Donny as a candidate. The lack of game time of the Manchester United midfielder will be an advantage for Madrid, as they can get him for a much lesser price.
Solskjaer’s dislikng towards the Man United midfielder
During his time at Ajax, he drew the attention of a number of big European clubs and finally joined Manchester United. However, Van de Beek started only 4 league matches in the whole 2020-21 season. This year he has only made 2 appearances in the league so far. This shows how much Ole does not prefer him. On the other hand, some players who have made more mistakes than Donny are preferred over him. Donny has performed well when he has stepped on the pitch for Man United, even better than some of their regular starters. He is capable of playing as an 8 as he has shown for Ajax before.
The reason behind Ole not using Donny is yet to be known. He has also lost his place in the Dutch squad and that is very bad news with the World Cup round the corner. Donny needs game time to get in the Dutch squad and play for the Netherlands at the World Cup. A move to Real Madrid may as well increase his chances of playing at the World Cup, while Man United midfielder will never reject a move to Real Madrid.
This can turn out to be a great deal for both parties. As United are also struggling for results this season, their need for a defensive midfielder is highlighted more than ever. Man United can cash in on the midfielder and get themselves one defensive midfielder. Real Madrid can also get one good replacement for Luka Modric for a comparatively lesser price. Meanwhile, Donny will also get more game time than he does at United. However, Donny can also opt to stay at United if they have a change in their managerial position.
