Manchester United player ratings as they defeat Leeds in a six-goal thriller

Here we have with us the Manchester United player ratings as they avoid a scare against Leeds United. Manchester United moved up to the fourth spot but have to be cautious as their competitors have games in hand. Leeds are in the same place on the table as they have a one-point gap ahead of Everton.

Man United took the lead in the 34th minute with their first set-piece goal of the season. Luke Shaw‘s corner directly found Maguire in the box who was present there to score. United doubled their lead with a daunting run from Lindelof. Sancho got the ball and put in a fantastic chipped ball that found Bruno Fernandes‘ head just before halftime.

However, Leeds brought back their game as Rodrigo cross directly ended up in the net as De Gea was unable to punch the ball. The Whites equalized the score within a minute from their first goal. Fernandes lost the ball near United’s box and Daniel James drilled in the ball that found Raphina’s feet for a tap-in.

Nevertheless, United were able to fight back as the substitute Fred helped United regain their lead. Manchester United created better chances and doubled their lead again in the 88th minute with a clean finish from Elanga and an assist for Bruno. The two substitutes turned out to be the matchwinners for Manchester United.

David de Gea – 5/10

Made a few good saves but let Leeds score their first goal as he misjudged Rodrigo’s cross that led to a goal.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 4/10

Did not seem to improve even after not playing for nine games. Had similar problems of positioning as before and some mistimed challenges.

Victor Lindelof – 6/10

Started well and played a huge role in the second goal. However, he got silenced for some time when Leeds enjoyed their best football.

Harry Maguire – 7/10

Ended United’s corner goal drought and he needed that to boost his confidence. Was decent throughout the game and did not have blunders like before.

Luke Shaw – 5/10

He was off pace at times and also sloppy, where he did not make good challenges. Nevertheless, he got an assist for the first goal.

Scott McTominay – 5/10

Somehow avoided getting a red card as his aggression in the start was a lot to handle for the Leeds players and got booked later.

Paul Pogba – 7/10

Paul Pogba was a lot to handle for the Leeds defense and was very impressive in the first half but couldn’t replicate that in the second.

Bruno Fernandes – 7/10

A good game for the Portuguese Magnifico as he scored a header and assisted the fourth but lost the ball in a dangerous position that lead to the 2nd goal for Leeds.

Jesse Lingard – 5/10

Started a game for United in more than two years but did not have any major impact and was substituted later.

Jadon Sancho – 8/10

Another excellent performance from the youngster as he did nothing wrong. A calm chipped ball for Fernandes and a simple pass for Fred got him 2 assists.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 6/10

Could have opened the scoring but a lucky save from Meslier kept the scores level, however, the linkup play was improved.

Substitutes

Anthony Elanga – 7/10

Could have gotten himself two goals if he had scored an easy chance nevertheless a good performance and a goal.

Fred – 8/10

Did all the hard work and was also at the end of the ball before regaining the lead.

Did not get enough time to make an impact.
