Manchester United drew against Chelsea on Thursday night and ended their hopes of making a top-four finish.

Cristiano Ronaldo stole the show yet again for Manchester United at Old Trafford. He helped United save some grace against Chelsea in front of their home fans.

The home fans were already disgruntled with the Glazer family’s ownership. Moreover, a poor show from the team heightened their frustration.

However, the night could have ended far worse for United. The Red Devils had their share of luck when a Reece James shot hit the post in the second half.

Chelsea dominated possession throughout the match. However, below-par play in the final third kept them from getting a goal in the first half.

One hour into the match, Chelsea broke the deadlock. Marcos Alonso scored the sore goal for the Blues.

Two minutes after Chelsea’s breakthrough, Nemanja Matic found Ronaldo with a beautiful chip shot in the box. Ronaldo, taking an exquisite touch, fired home the half-volley.

However, most of Ronaldo’s other teammates failed to show up as have been the case for United this season.

MANCHESTER UNITED PLAYER RATINGS

David De Gea 8/10

Made a number of crucial saves. He denied Kai Havertz halfway through the first half and then again saved a header from him. This was also in the first half.

Diego Dalot 4/10

Below-par defending in the right-back position. Could not provide effective balls into the box higher up the pitch. Moreover, he failed to mark Marcos Alonso which cost United the goal.

Victor Lindelof 5/10

Made quite a few clearances. However, was seen aloof from the rest of the players in his line on a number of occasions.

Alex Telles 4/10

Reece James had a gala in this part of the pitch. He could send in crosses at will into the box without any real threat from the left-back.

Scott Mctominay 4/10

Was seen struggling in the first half and that deteriorated his gameplay. He also was unable to break Chelsea’s domination over the ball.

Nemanja Matic 6/10

Not a dominating performance in the first half. However, provided a cheeky pass that led to Ronaldo’s goal in the second half.

Anthony Elanga 5/10

Did not get much of the ball and therefore was unable to create many chances.

Bruno Fernandes 4/10

Another poor performance from the Portuguese. He repeatedly lost the ball to N’Golo Kante. Moreover, his touches were not sharp as well.

Marcus Rashford 4/10

Another tough evening for the Englishmen. He did not even trackback to win the ball in his half from the Chelsea players.

Cristiano Ronaldo 8/10

The standout player in the entire United lineup. Scored the crucial goal that helped the team to escape with a point. Also, forced a good save from Edouard Mendy in the closing minutes of the second half.
