Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Raphael Varane sealed the deal for Manchester United. This was their last home game this season and they appropriately gave their fans something to cheer after a long time.
The win last night at Old Trafford ended their three game winless run. After Brentford went behind from a goal by Bruno, they did not bow down to United pressure. Erikson cross in the 20th minute was met by Ivan Toney which narrowly flew over the bar.
The Red Devils who had the majority of the possession had them a goal cancelled by VAR which was scored by Ronaldo. He then left no chance to bury the ball past David Raya from the spot-kick. The Bees kept knocking on United’s door. Close to the hour mark, Toney forced a good save from De Gea.
However, after that it was a thoroughfare for United who kept the pressure on the Bees. After which Varane got his first goal for the club and consolidated the lead for his team.
MANCHESTER UNITED PLAYER RATINGS
David De Gea 8/10
The Brentford players could not test him that much. However, he was forced to make a good save from a shot that was fired by Toney.
Diego Dalot 7/10
Found Ronaldo early with a good ball which Ronaldo could not finish. Moreover, was heavily involved in the first goal that was scored by Bruno. Got into good positions, forward.
Raphael Varane 8/10
Was not posed enough challenge by the Bees. However, scored a goal and kept a cleansheet.
Victor Lindelof 7/10
Pulled off an important header, just when Eriksen was going to shoot. Apart from that there was never any more pressure on him from the opponent.
Allex Telles 6/10
The Brentford players were able to deceive him early on in the match. However, recovered after that. Tried to get higher up the pitch and get into spaces offered to him. His corner was met by Varane who scored from it.
Nemanja Matic 7/10
Another magnificent display in the midfield. Made a world-class pass to find Bruno who shot it wide.
Scott McTominay 5/10
Not a very good performance from the midfielder. He could not improve his performance from his frustrating game against Chelsea.
Anthony Elanga 7/10
Made a wonderful run to get Dalot’s pass and cross it to Bruno from which he scored. However, it’s high time that he track back to get the ball from his opponent.
Bruno Fernandes 6/10
Scored a goal in a long time from Elanga’s assist. However, missed a very good chance from Matic’s pass. Thereafter, did not do much.
Juan Mata 7/10
He showed what he can still do at this age. He also gave a call to give him more match-time by his performance. Played a fantastic role higher up the pitch.
Cristiano Ronaldo 8/10
Another standout performance from the Portugese. Had his goal cancelled by VAR before the half time. However, he got his goal from the penalty spot. Overall, player very well.
