The hopes of Manchester United finishing in the top four of the Premier League table at the end of the season are as good as gone as they lost 3-1 against Arsenal at the Emirates.

Ralf Rangnick dropped club captain Harry Maguire in hope of a better defensive performance at the back. But the Manchester United defence was shambolic as always. Nuno Tavares opened the scoring in only the 3rd minute after David de Gea parried a shot from Saka right into his path. Eddie Nketiah was also on top form after his brace against Chelsea last time around. Telles’ challenge on Saka was deemed as a penalty. Saka himself stepped up and converted from the spot in the 33rd minute.

The red devils did respond quite quickly as Ronaldo recorded his 100th goal in the Premier League from a Nemanja Matić cross in the 34th minute. Manchester United come out of the traps quite quickly in the second half. The red devil’s front line was creating constant opportunities and it seemed United were gonna get back in the game.

The referee awarded a penalty to Manchester United after Nuno Tavares handballed the ball from a corner kick. But Bruno Fernandes managed to find the post instead of the back of the net. Granit Xhaka put the game to bed with a beautiful long-range shot in the 70th minute.

Manchester United player ratings

David de Gea 6/10

He made a couple of good saves but he was yet again let down by his backline.

Diogo Dalot 6/10

The right-back hit the crossbar in the first half and then hit the post in the second half. Very unlucky to not have his name on the scoresheet.

Victor Lindelof 6/10

The centre-half did well to read the danger at times, the best performance out of the backline.

Raphael Varane 4/10

Varane was at fault for the first goal of the game and he looks very shaky in the heart of the defence.

Alex Telles 3/10

Another horrible defensive show by the left-back. He gave away the penalty for the second goal, while also at fault for the first goal.

Scott McTominay 5/10

Struggled in the first half but did very well in the second and threw himself into almost every challenge possible.

Nemanja Matic 6/10

Assisted Cristiano Ronaldo‘s goal and made a few good interceptions and tackles.

Bruno Fernandes 3/10

Missed a chance in the first half to level proceedings and also missed the penalty in the second half. A very unline Bruno performance.

Anthony Elanga 5/10

Used his pace quite well against Nuno Tavares. He had a brilliant chance in the first half to score but he did not manage to capitalize.

Jadon Sancho 6/10

Used his skills quite well up against the Arsenal midfield and defence.

Cristiano Ronaldo 6/10

Manchester United’s best player yet again. Scored in the first half and should have taken the penalty to level proceedings.
