Manchester United climb to 4th in the Premier League table as they saw off Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Brighton & Hove Albion started the game in a very positive fashion and put Manchester United on the back foot straight away. Brighton kept possession pretty well and the red devils could not get a kick off the football. Jakub Moder forced an excellent stop from David de Gea. While Jadon Sancho had a brilliant chance to score at the other end but could not squeeze the ball past Robert Sánchez.

Manchester United did start the second half much better and were pressing higher up the pitch. Scott McTominay won possession back and Cristiano Ronaldo scored from an excellent finish, giving red devils the lead. Just three minutes later the Seagulls’ captain Dunk was sent off for a foul on Anthony Elanga.

Robert Sanchez made a couple of good saves to keep Brighton in the game. But late on Paul Pogba took a quick free-kick to send Bruno Fernandes through on goal. The Portuguese midfield maestro scored in a brilliant fashion to hand Manchester United the 2-0 win.

Manchester United player ratings

David de Gea 7

The Spaniard made an exceptional save to keep the scores level in the first half. He also did save a few tame efforts from the Brighton squad.

Diogo Dalot 6

The right-back made 16 ball recoveries on the night. He looks like the first choice right-back now.

Victor Lindelof 6

Thrown into the starting lineup after Raphael Varane pulled out due to illness. Looked solid in the heard of defence.

Harry Maguire 5

His passing was atrocious in the first half but did win a few important battles to keep the clean sheet.

Luke Shaw 6

Grew into the game just like most Unite players. But could not offer any real attacking output.

Scott McTominay 6

Won the ball back for the Cristiano Ronaldo goal. But struggled to keep the Brighton midfield at bay.

Fred 5

Fred really struggled after returning to the starting lineup. His passes were a bit off and lost possession way too often.

Bruno Fernandes 7

Should have walked out of the game with a few more goal returns at least. But did grab a good goal at the end of the game.

Anthony Elanga 6

Tried to take players on every chance he got. He also got Dunk send-off.

Jadon Sancho 8

Coming to his best in the Manchester United shirt. Should have scored a goal in the first half but a really positive game.

Cristiano Ronaldo 7

Ended one of the longest goal droughts in his career with a brilliant goal. But should have grabbed a few more goals in the game.
