Manchester United player ratings in shock defeat to Watford

tennis player

Manchester United player ratings will be inevitably low as they were thrashed 4-1 by Watford at Vicarage Road. Another day to forget for the Red Devils in what is turning out to be a nightmare of a season. David de Gea saved one penalty two times early on in the game. Even so, Watford went 2-0 up at half-time.

Joshua King was left unmarked and was on the scoresheet again against Manchester United. Ismaila Sarr found himself time in the box to shoot in the bottom far corner and double the lead. Solskjaer brought Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek at half-time. Donny scored his only 2nd goal in a United shirt after just 5 minutes from coming on. Although United tried picking pockets of spaces, they were not able to score more.

Moreover, Joao Pedro got his first goal in the Premier League when he saw his effort getting squeezed from under De Gea’s legs. Emmanuel Dennis gave the final blow with his low-driven shot from inside the box. In conclusion, Manchester United are now on one of their worst forms in recent times. Let’s have a look at how Manchester United players were rated in a shock defeat to Watford.

Manchester United player ratings vs Watford

David de Gea – 5/10

United would have been in a far worse place this season if it was not for peak De Gea to return. He saved one penalty and then saved the retake too and made some more important. Although he could have been better for the third goal and was let down by the defence.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 2/10

He has again failed to clear a cross towards him and was let down again by his positional awareness. Moreover, he also failed to contribute to the attack which everybody saw coming.

Victor Lindelof – 5/10

Couldn’t handle Watford’s press and was caught out of position on their counter attacks. Although he became stable in the second half. In addition, he also covered the spaces well when Maguire was sent off.

Harry Maguire – 3/10

Maguire looked better than his previous matches in the first half. He made some crucial blocks and tackles in the first 45 minutes. However, he started to panic again and received a second yellow by creating a wasteful mistake.

Luke Shaw – 5/10

Another average performance by Shaw. He is also not creating as much as he was in the last season was substituted because of a possible injury. Also, he looks to have lost a bit of pace.

Scott Mctominay – 2/10

Mctominay lacked the pace and did not look fully fit to start the game. Conceded an early penalty and was taken off at half-time.

Nemanja Matic – 4/10

Even though he did well in the defensive department, he gave the ball quite a lot and in dangerous areas. Does not look as sharp as he was before and not one play matches week in and week out.

Jadon Sancho – 5/10

Had a rough first half but did well once he swapped positions with Marcus Rashford. His cross for Ronaldo’s assist was pinpoint. Although he is showing signs of progress there’s still a lot he can do.

Bruno Fernandes – 3/10

Was trying to spray passes but his pass also led to the penalty. He is more reliant on fouls and falling down now instead of getting up. Did not fall back well when Watford scored their second. He is also failing to finish the chances which he should be scoring quite well.

Marcus Rashford – 4/10

United’s only shot on target in the first half came from Rashford. Overall, he had a frustrating half and was taken off at half-time due to possible injury to prevent further damage.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 5/10

Finally, Cristiano Ronaldo was unseen in the first like other players. On the other, did great with a header to set up Donny van de Beek and failed to capitalize on some occasions. Created one or two good chances for his teammates.

Substitutes

Anthony Martial – 4/10

Martial was hardly seen on the pitch and did not do anything to be highlighted in the game.

Donny van de Beek – 8/10

Donny was United’s best outfield player by far. Scored after 5 minutes from coming on. Every United attack went through Donny and also did the defensive work well. He should get the start he deserves for the next game.

Diogo Dalot

Had very little to do to make an impact on the game.

Jesse Lingard

Had very little to do to make an impact on the game.
