Here we have our Manchester United player ratings in their triumph over Brentford in the Premier League. United won 1-3 in their first game away at Brentford since 1947. Three goals from three academy players sealed the victory for the Red Devils.

All four goals came in the second half of the game with the home side dominating most of the first half. Manchester United punished Brentford for not taking their chances early in the game. Ralf Rangnick tweaked their system for the second half which resulted in United scoring 3 goals. Brentford got a goal back in the 85th minute but it was too little too late.

Elanga is turning heads in and around the United squad as he displayed yet another decent outing. The Swedish U21 international opened the scoring for Ralf Rangnick’s men 10 minutes into the second half. Fred picked out Elanga into the box with a beautiful ball over the Brentford defence.

The Swede then times his run perfectly to meet the ball, controls the ball on the bounce with his first touch to head it past the keeper. A very well taken goal.

United doubled their lead through Greenwood. Ronaldo cleverly chested down McTominay’s ball into Bruno’s path who charged into the box to square it to Greenwood for a simple tap in.

McTominay was involved in yet another goal as he stole possession in the Brentford half to start a counter-attack, he fed the ball to Bruno who slipped Rashford in on goal and the English forward passed the ball into the right top corner.

Brentford got a scrappy goal late into the game as Sorensen’s long throw ended up in the United penalty area. The ball pinballed its way to Toney who toe-poked it from a close range.

Manchester United player ratings vs Brentford

David De Gea: 8/10

Made some very crucial saves in the first half to keep United in the game. Another man of the match performance by the Spanish shot-stopper.

Diego Dalot: 6.5/10

Had a shaky start to the game but he grew into it. Improved in the second half like most of the players.

Victor Lindelof: 6.5/10

Looks much more settled alongside Varane. Made no notable errors and handled the physicality of the game well.

Raphael Varane: 7/10

A classy performance from the French centre-back. Calm, composed and always in control of the game.

Alex Telles: 6/10

Did not get forward as much as he would have liked. Still put in a couple of crosses. Needs to improve his delivery from the corners.

Fred: 5/10

Came up with a beautiful assist to open the scoring. But was often bullied in the midfield and hardly made any other contributions.

McTominay: 7/10

He was like a different player in the second half. Lost the midfield battle in the first half but his second performance was one of the best so far this season. Contributed in the second and was crucial for the third.

Bruno Fernandes: 7/10

A little wasteful on the ball. Nevertheless, he still came up with two assists. Another player that improved in the second half.

Mason Greenwood: 6/10

Very silent throughout the game. Took his chance in the second half and bagged a much-needed goal.

Anthony Elanga: 7/10

The youngster keeps impressing and has made a case to start over Rashford in the game against West Ham. Scored his second senior goal for Manchester United.

Cristiano Ronaldo: 6/10

Provided with little service, worked hard and played a part in the second goal. He was left fuming after being taken off at 0-2 for Harry Maguire.

Substitutes

Marcus Rashford: 6.5/10

Came on for Greenwood in the 71st minute. Took his goal brilliantly to put the game out of the reach of Brentford.

Harry Maguire 6/10

Replaced Ronaldo. Had little impact on the game.

Nemanja Matic N/A

Did not play enough to make a notable contribution.
