Manchester United completed a 4-0 rout vs Everton before energetic fans at Old Trafford on Saturday, 7th August. With this result, they drew the curtain on the pre-season.

Five of the Reds’ starting line-up were involved in their first match after the Euro 2020. Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes scored brilliant first-half goals to put Solskjaer’s men in the driving seat after Mason Greenwood’s opener.

Bruno’s strike, his first in front of home fans since February 2020, was particularly special. He whipped an unstoppable free-kick over the wall and beyond Jordan Pickford.

The first half was a good show for the fans, with 3 dazzling goals. The second half was more focused on giving minutes to Pogba, Fred and McTominay after their international involvement.

Manchester United dispatched wave after wave of attack at the Everton defence. Crippling under the constant pressure in the first half, the Toffees conceded 3 in 30 mins. Diogo Dalot completed the rout when he stooped to nod in Fred’s low cross in stoppage time.

Speaking to MUTV, Solskjaer said, “There were some goals, that was a positive. Every team in the league poses a different challenge, so today was about intensity and going home tonight with four goals. That gives us confidence.”

All set for the new season

On Sancho and Varane, the Norwegian added, “The medical with Raphael [still] has to be done. He’s isolating at the moment. He had to wait for visas, so unfortunately that took a few more days than expected…. Jadon is in for Monday and hopefully then he’s in decent nick and can be involved [against Leeds].”

New signings Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane will begin training with the squad next week.

Manchester United will not focus on the 2022-22 campaign. After Leeds, they are to make trips to Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers before the end of August.
