According to reports Manchester United are keen to bring in Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix to the club and have already made early contact with the Spanish club.

The young Portuguese striker has struggled to find his feet at Atletico Madrid since his big-money move from Benfica in summer 2019. While this term the forward has struggled massively for game time.

Felix has just featured in 12 matches in all competitions, playing a total of just under 600 minutes this term. In this time he has recorded one goal and two assists.(Stats via Transfermarkt) With the current situation, Joao Felix is set to look for a move away from Wanda Metropolitano next summer.

Alongside Manchester United, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Manchester City are also scouting the young forward. According to a report by AS, Manchester United have already made contact with Atletico Madrid regarding Joao Felix’s situation.

The reports also suggest that Felix’s agent is already studying various alternatives to try to convince Atletico to let the attacker leave next summer. The youngster is currently under contract until 2026.

Good move for Ralf Rangnick and Manchester United?

Felix has registered 20 goals and set up a further 11 goals for his teammates in 88 appearances for the Spanish giants. He managed the same tally in just 43 first-team appearances for Benfica. Despite the drop of form, there is no doubt about the abilities and attributes of Felix. The 2019 Golden Boy winner would certainly add another dimension to the Red Devils front line.

Manchester United are undoubtedly in need of another rebuild. Many of the United frontline players are out of contract and many are set to be considering their future. The likes of Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, and Edinson Cavani are out of contract next summer. There are no signs if they will sign a new deal at the club.

French forward Antony Martial is also reported to be considering his options after limited playtime this term. Cristiano Ronaldo at 36 is showing no signs of slowing down and is still scoring week in and week out. But there are still questions of how long Ronaldo can keep this sort of top-level performance up. So, Manchester United needs to act quickly to get some good backup for the frontline.

With so many departures from the frontline imminent, signing Joao Felix next summer would certainly lower the average age of the front-line and tick a lot of other boxes for United.
