Manchester United are looking to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund and want him to play alongside Ronaldo next season.
Haaland will have a £68 million release clause in his contract next summer. The likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona are all keen to land the 21-year-old.
The Norway international has enjoyed his time in Germany so far. He has scored 66 times in 66 appearances for BVB since making the move from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020.
Haaland is already off to a flying start this campaign. He has scored nine times and provided four assists in seven appearances in all competitions.
Arrival of Ronaldo means no Haaland at United?
Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Manchester United last month, after twelve years away from the club. There had been suggestions that the Portuguese’s arrival would end the chances of United signing Haaland from Dortmund next summer.
However, the Red Devils are still planning to pursue the Norwegian striker’s signature. According to The Express, United want to sign Haaland to play alongside Ronaldo during the 2022-23 campaign.
Despite Manchester United spending big this summer adding Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and with Ronaldo to the squad, the Premier League outfit still remain firmly in the hunt for Haaland.
United have had a long-standing interest in Haaland. They have looked at the striker as a spearhead of the club’s attacking line for many years to come. In addition, Haaland has played under current United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Molde, and their Norwegian links could play a factor in bringing him to Old Trafford as well.
As per reports, United are planning a clear-out at the end of this season. Donny van de Beek, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial could be players that leave the club in order to free up funds. Edinson Cavani is another who could leave if there are no further extensions to his contract, and so Haaland could very well be a Manchester United player next season.
