According to The Sun, Manchester United wants to make Declan Rice “the center-piece of their side” in the future and is willing to pay £100 million for his talents. However, Rice still has two-and-a-half years left on his contract for West Ham. Nevertheless, he is still likely to leave if offers such as United’s come his way.
Declan Rice has been phenomenal for West Ham this season. He has made 24 appearances and scored 3 goals while assisting 4. Moreover, he has been crucial to their system and has run the show even against the big teams. West Ham now fights for a position in the top four of the Premier League.
If West Ham finishes in the top four then they might build a team around him. However, if West Ham fails to do so then it will be difficult for them to convince Rice to stay for another few years. The 22-year-old has attracted interest from other big clubs also such as Chelsea and Manchester City.
Manchester United has somehow struggled this season and they need the help of a proper defensive midfielder. Declan Rice can be the final piece of the puzzle for Manchester United. Moreover, they have a good defense and attack on paper but somehow fail to get good results. This is where the addition of Declan Rice will be key to United’s midfield.
How can Declan Rice improve Manchester United?
Declan Rice has shown himself to be one of the best defensive midfielders in the world at the moment. This is a position where many big clubs excel and is a very important position than it seems. Rice can play the role of Fabinho at Liverpool, Rodri at Manchester City, Casemiro at Real Madrid, or Busquets at Barcelona for United.
As we can see, all the big clubs have players who excel in their own way as defensive midfielders. However, United lacks that kind of a player who can dictate the tempo of the game or break the opponent’s plays. They currently use either Fred or McTominay but there needs to be an increase in the standard of their gameplay.
Fred makes too many mistakes and whereas McTominay is not as consistent as Rice and lacks experience in this particular position. United can be a far better side if they get Rice and will also be assured more security for their backline. Moreover, the other midfielders will have more access to go forward and contribute to the attack. A good defensive midfielder can make a massive difference to this United side.
United can increase their chances of signing Declan rice by finishing in the top four and securing Champions League football. However, that will be easier said than done as they face good competition for the fourth spot. Moreover, the £100 million price tag will barely do any good to the transfer. It will be very tough for United to reach an agreement with West Ham if that is the price tag.
