Erik Ten Hag’s arrival to Manchester United has prompted rumours of him bringing many of his Ajax players to Old Trafford over the summer. Jurrien Timber is one of the players that will interest the Red Devils, Stretty News claim.
The young defender is mainly a centre-back but can deputize at right-back too. With Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka not being able to perform to the standards expected at United, Timber would be an obvious choice for improving the squad.
Jurrien Timber rose through the Ajax academy, making his debut in 2020. He has made forty-three appearances since then, winning two Eredivise titles on the way.
United’s defensive woes this season are well known. The only teams which have lesser clean sheets than them this season are Norwich, Watford, Leeds and Leicester. Ten Hag would certainly have to shore up the defence to compete for honours.
United were also in the market for Lille defender Sveve Botman. But the possibility of a three-way bidding war between United, Newcastle and AC Milan may make Jurrien Timber a more attractive option. Ten Hag can convince the young prospect of a move, and quickly integrate him into the squad in the preseason.
Timber The Right Man For United?
Manchester United need an overhaul of their squad. Several underperforming players and deadwood are present in the team. Ten Hag will have to bring in fresh blood to revitalize the club, and the signing of Timber would be a fantastic place to start. He could join another ex-Ajax graduate in Frenkie De Jong, should United pull off the signing.
Overall, Timber can be just the player United need. His immense talent aside, his familiarity with Ten Hag’s system is a bonus. At 20, he can be a key member of the team for years to come.
