Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino reveals Marc Cucurella is in his scheme of plans after a failed move to Manchester United this summer.
After losing both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, United were hopeful to sign Cucurella in the final weeks of the summer transfer window. However the move didn’t materialise and Sergio Reguilon joined them.
Pochettino opted to play him in the Carabao cup tie against AFC Wimbledon in August. He had a average outing at Stanford Bridge.
The French International was not at his very best in his first season at Stanford Bridge. Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion last year for a fee of £65 million.
Recent reports suggest Blues will allow him to leave in January. But Cucurella has returned to Pochettino’s scheme of plans as he impressed in last week’s Carabao Cup victory over Brighton.
Chelsea boss claims that he was not aware of Cucurella’s move to United this summer. However, he assures that Marc Cucurella will get his due opportunity this season. Pochettino said :-
“I don’t know because I wasn’t involved in this situation, that was more the sporting director, the [player’s] agent and the club.
“After, when the transfer window closed, we were talking in office.
“We were really clear about how I see and assess him and I listened to his feelings. Of course, it was a difficult time for him after he arrived from Brighton.
“It was tough, not only for him, but many players
“That’s why we need to give confidence and trust in him. He is our player and I think he was really good against Brighton on Wednesday.
“I think he was doing well and I am so happy about his performance and commitment. That’s what we expect from our players.
