GK Marcos Bettinelli is yet to make his top-flight debut for Chelsea since joining in July 2021. He is yet to make his Premier debut for the Blues.

Bettinelli was Thomas Tuchel’s first signing for Chelsea when he joined the club in January 2021. The GK left Fulham at the end of his contract earlier this summer. He was bought on a free transfer to become the third-choice goalkeeper at Stanford Bridge.

Bettinelli spent his previous campaign on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship. He was often on the bench for Champions League matches as the club choose two substitute goalkeepers. The 30-year-old was also on the bench in the Premier League on seven occasions in his inaugural campaign but never step foot on the football pitch. His only appearance came against Chesterfield in January 2022 in FA Cup third-round draw. He played 90 minutes as the Blues won the match 5:0.

After his arrival at Chelsea, Bettinelli insisted he was ready to call upon when needed. He was also looking forward to working with fellow GK Kepa Arrizabalaga and Eduardo Mendy:-

“I played a lot of games last season and now I’m sure there will be a different role for me but I’m excited for it. I’m going to try to learn as much as I can, help the team as much as I can and do everything in my power to benefit everyone else.

“It was important that I played a lot of games last season. It kept me sharp and if I’m ever needed this season then I’ll be ready.

“I’m excited to work with those two top-class goalkeepers and I’m sure I’ll learn a lot from them both. One of the biggest reasons for joining Chelsea is I’ve still got a lot to give.”
