The stint of Martin Braithwaite has been quite below the satisfactory level for FC Barcelona. He always struggled to fit in the system of the coaches he played under at Barca. The void that Luis Suarez left with his departure was massive and the Dane never filled it. However, with decreasing game time, the striker is still nodding his head upside down to stay at Barca.
It was a very peculiar signing for Barcelona when they bought Martin Braithwaite from CD Leganes. He was the top scorer for his team in that particular season until Barca bought him. But his role at the club was quite unsure to his managers, may it be Quique Setien or Ronald Koeman. Since joining the Camp Nou outfit, the striker scored 10 goals and recorded 5 assists in 57 apps.
In the recently concluded season, Braithwaite had very little involvement. Also under the new head coach and Barca legend Xavi, his game time was reduced even further. This is because after Xavi’s arrival the club bought the likes of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Ferran Torres, and Adama Traore. Also, Luuk de Jong made quite an impact and Xavi preferred him over Braithwaite.
Now the Dane looks like someone Barca will look to offload given their poor financial status as a club. The faster they can keep him off the wage bill, the better for them. However, the striker has a different plan in his mind. According to La Porteria, ‘the former-Leganes striker seems to have a different plan in mind as he is reportedly happy to stay and fight for his place with the Catalan outfit.’
Currently, he is at a very high wage at the club, something others won’t offer. Plus, he runs several businesses in the city of Barcelona and is also a billionaire. Celta Vigo, Valencia, and Brighton & Hove Albion previously enquired about the availability of the striker. But all that faded away.
