Chrisitan Horner and Red Bull are at the center of the budget cap breach scandal as Martin Brundle attacks Horner.

Sky sports commentator and former F1 driver Martin Brundle has criticized Christian Horner and Red Bull for not following the 2021 budget cap regulations. Brundle has demanded Horner sign a document that ensures that his team remains accountable for the rules and regulations.

FIA set the 2021 budget cap at $145 million. All the teams were to follow and stay within the cap throughout the season. The teams were instructed to document all their spending and later submit them for review.

FIA has been scanning the documents for the past few months as it investigated for any possible budget cap breach.

Sadly, for Red Bull, the news came against them as the governing body found them guilty of breaching the budget. Red Bull was at fault for a “minor” overspend.

This means that Red Bull spent less than $152.25 million. Further, reports indicate that the team spent around $147 million.

Although many reports have indicated the “minor” overspending to be caused by catering services to the employees and misinterpretation of sick leaves, the team is set to receive a penalty.

Martin Brundle wants Red Bull and Christian Horner to be accountable

FIA is yet to announce a penalty for the Milton-Keynes-based squad. Nevertheless, Martin Brundle has his thoughts on the issue.

Although Red Bull continues to deny any overspending on their part, it hasn’t stopped people to wonder how much the team could have done with that supposed extra $2 million.

“[The estimated overspend] could be a new front wing or a floor or something like that,”

said Brundle on the Any Driven Monday show on Sky Sports.

“All of the teams, somehow or other, will be making the absolute most of their interpretation of these regulations.”

Brundle suggests that Horner should sign a document that ensures he and his team stays within the regulations.

“Also, the corporate governance of Mercedes-Benz, for example, means that they can’t be seen to breach something like this,”

he explained.

“That needs to be the same for all teams. I’d like to think, and I understand it to be the case, that someone like Toto has to sign a document to comply with these.

“Christian Horner at Red Bull, all the key personnel and financial personnel should be personally locked into this.

“That’s a critical area. So that they’re responsible and accountable, as well as their company, in being transparent and honest with these numbers.”

Aston Martin was also found guilty of a procedural breach in the aftermath of the investigation by the FIA.
