Arsenal might make Martin Odegaard unhappy with their summer plans. The Gunners have already indicated that they wish to add a winger to their squad. Furthermore they wish to sign a winger by the end of the season. And this could have an impact on the current Arsenal squad. Arsenal have already signed Leandro Trossard from Brighton in January. However Trossard have been keen to prove that he is more than just a winger. The Belgian have been brilliant for the Gunners since joining them. His good form even prompted Arteta to drop Nketiah and readjust his forward line-up. However this arrangement could soon change with the return of Gabriel Jesus. Trossard believes that he is best utilized in the number 10 role. A role that is much similar to Martin Odegaard. Furthermore Arsenal are heavily linked with Borussia Dortmund‘s Julian Brandt and Bayer Leverkusen‘s Moussa Diaby.
Martin Odegaard could face competition in the Arsenal squad
It will give Arsenal the further depth in the wing if they manage to sign the Bundesliga duo. However Trossard could be forced into another role if they sign another winger. The Belgian could play as a No-10 in the squad. This could make Martin Odegaard as he plays in a similar position. Martin Odegaard has been irreplaceable this season as an attacking midfielder. However this will now add further pressure on the player to perform better if Trossard is breathing down his neck. Trossard have already spoke about his preferred position in the pitch. The player shared, “I like to be in the pocket behind the striker. On the wings, I can explore myself as well. I’m comfortable in either of those positions but if I were to choose, behind the striker – but it all depends on the system.”
If Arsenal manages to sign more players on the wings, it will give Arteta more option for a rotation on the bench. A healthy competition in the squad is never a bad thing. Moreover Martin Odegaard would be happy with a bit of competition in the squad as it will help him to fully utilize his talents.
