As per recent reports, Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount is not thinking of a move away from Stamford Bridge. With his contract expiring in 2024, the England international is fully focused on winning titles with the club rather than an exit.
Mount is quite notably one of the young favourites for both his club and country. The 22-year-old midfielder was the Blues’ talisman under previous manager Frank Lampard. However, he has been a little silent under Thomas Tuchel in this campaign so far.
His top performances and playing style have unsurprisingly attracted a lot of attention. While clubs like Real Madrid and Liverpool have shown interest in the player, but the Englishman has made it quite clear that he is not open to an exit from the club.
Mason Mount’s deserved success at Chelsea
Graduating from Chelsea academy in 2017, Mount spent two seasons in succession away from London. He went on loan to Vitesse and Derby County in 2017 and 2018 respectively. He returned to the Blues in 2019 and made his senior debut for the club against Manchester United. Just a week later, against Leicester, he scored his first goal for the London Giants in Lampard’s managerial debut for the club.
The Englishman has come a long way since then. The 22-year-old midfielder is a Champions League and a Supercup winner with Chelsea. The player averages 1.0 tackles, 1.8 shots, and 1.2 key passes per game in Premier League football. He is also a great playmaker, distributing possession accurately in the opposition half after making 87.7% passes. (stats via WHOSCORED)
The England international’s link-up between midfield and the edge of the final third paired with his ‘getting into the box’ tendency has been crucial in Thomas Tuchel’s wing-back setups.
Do the Blues really need Mount?
Ever since Tuchel’s take over, the London Giants have been the absolute kings. Winning the Champions League after defeating Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Manchester City is not a feat that many can achieve.
With a 3-4-3 system and a top-quality midfield with Reece James, N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, and Ben Chilwell, there is not much space left for Mount. Hence, the player mostly plays as a winger now.
Even though the Englishman is not playing in his conventional position, his quality has not let the team down. He has managed to secure 3 goals and 2 assists in 6 Premier League starts this season. It can be said that Mount may be a necessity for Chelsea with his ability to play in any position he is put in makes him a versatile player which any manager dreams of having such players in their team.
