Nemanja Matic thinks the overall performance of Manchester United against Chelsea yesterday was an ‘improvement’.

United hosted Chelsea at Old Trafford on Thursday night. Chelsea opened the scoring with a brilliant half-volley from Marcos Alonso in the early minutes of the second half.

However, it was again Cristiano Ronaldo who came to the rescue of the Red Devils. He equalized just after the Marcos Alonso goal from a chip delivered by Matic.

Chelsea was no doubt the better team throughout the match. However, their plating in the final third was not up to the mark. That is why though they had the bulk of the possession in the match- 64% and six shots on target they failed to bag all the three points.

Whereas, despite United’s lackluster performance they were able to get one point from the match. However, being unable to get the win meant that mathematically they were out of contention for the top four place finish.

What Tuchel had to say about the atmosphere of Manchester United?

The German manager believed that the ‘edgy’ atmosphere in Old Trafford during his team’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United went on to benefit Chelsea.

Empty seats were visible inside the stadium at kick-off. Moreover, fans continued to trickle in even after the 17th minute.

They were protesting the Glazer family’s ownership of Manchester United for 17 years.

After fans entered the stadium after the 17th minute they continued with their protest against the Glazers. Moreover, there were angry murmurs heard as Chelsea enjoyed long bouts of possession.

The fans were seen with red and green flares and holding anti-owner banners. These protests were said to have been organized by a fan group named ‘The 1958’.

Another protest is again planned on Monday when the Red Devils face Brentford.
