Mauricio Pochettino joining Manchester United rumours have started to resurface again. After the departure of Jose Mourinho in 2018, Mauricio Pochettino was very close to joining United. The Red Devils were expected to challenge for the title this season considering the money they have spent. However, the club has struggled quite a lot this season, and the need to change their manager was inevitable.
United had to make the decision of parting ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer based on a recent dip in form. They had won just one of their last 7 games and their defense was leaking goals like a broken tap. The caretaker manager of Manchester United is now Michael Carrick and has managed their game against Villarreal. Manchester United kept a clean against Villarreal and looked a far better side than their previous games. If one inexperienced manager can bring this much change then an experienced is capable of doing wonders in the same job.
Manchester United are currently searching for an interim manager who can see them till the end of the season. They have very good options to replace Solskjaer, xxcept that are struggling to make one sure choice and their prime candidates are already busy with other jobs. However, according to recent news, Mauricio Pochettino was ready to take over Manchester United midseason and leave PSG with immediate effect.
But when he was asked about an opportunity to join United he replied,
“My contract with Paris is until June 2023. I’m very happy at PSG, that’s a fact. I am happy in Paris, I want to make it clear”.
Why Pochettino is linked to Manchester United again?
Many have termed Manchester United as a side with no tactical plan this season. In addition, they now need a manager who is tactically adept. A squad like Manchester United is capable of winning everything yet they are struggling to win the smallest of games. United fans were unhappy with Mourinho’s defensive approach to the game. Their fans are more habituated to seeing their team play an intense attacking game of football. United fans wanted Pochettino at the seat as soon as Manchester United and Mourinho parted ways. Pochettino has done remarkable work at Spurs and his attacking football and developing young talent attracted fans the most.
However, a string of bad results got him sacked from the Spurs job, and was later appointed at PSG. Manchester United also appointed Solskjaer as their permanent manager because of his great run of results as the interim manager. Pochettino inherited a star-studded squad at PSG including arguably the best player of all time Lionel Messi. A combination of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi along with Sergio Ramos at the back is a dream of many managers. PSG however failed to win the league in Pochettino’s first season but are now leading by 11 points and are in a comfortable position in the Champions League.
Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment at Manchester United will make a lot of United fans happy and will help United hugely. Pochettino has a contract with PSG till 2023 and is happy where he is. Nevertheless, United’s primary option is still Pochettino as their manager. According to several reports, he is unhappy with the fact that his family is in London, while the reports add, he is happy to join United midseason and leave PSG.
