With interim manager Ralf Rangnick only taking over the Manchester United head-coach role until the end of the season. The race for the Manchester United job looks wide open. But Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag seems to be leading the race to become the new head coach at the end of the season.

Both the managers have been heavily linked with an Old Trafford switch at the end of the season. But Mauricio Pochettino’s struggles at Paris Saint-Germain and PSG’s exit from the French Cup on penalties against Nice has only added fuel to the fire and speculation.

The Argentinian manager was the front runner to land the Manchester United job after the club sacked Jose Mourinho in 2018. But interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side went on a brilliant run and Ole landed the job on a permanent basis.

But with the former Tottenham Hotspurs manager struggling in Paris. Reports also suggest that the club are considering bringing in a new manager at the end of the season to replace Pochettino. This could end up as the ideal opportunity for Mauricio and could see him finally be in the Old Trafford dugout.

Who could be Mauricio Pochettino’s first signing as Manchester United manager?

The Manchester United hierarchy decided to not spend any money in the January transfer window. The club decided to wait until the arrival of a new permanent manager to spend money in the summer. The United squad looks to be in the need of a rebuild in the summer.

The midfield and attack in particular looks in need of a rebuild. Donny van de Beek’s future at the club is still a big question mark. While Nemanja Matić is now 33 and the club certainly need to sign a new defensive midfielder.

But the attack looks even further in danger. The likes of Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani and Juan Mata are all out of contract in this summer and look set to leave the club on a free transfer. While Antony Martial’s future is still a big question mark. With Cristiano Ronaldo now 37, the club certainly needs to target an attacking reinforcement.

Mauricio Pochettino may turn to his tried and tested striker Harry Kane. Harry Kane looks set to push for a move again next summer. Manchester United are also long term admirers of the England captain. The Argentinian manager can certainly push Kane to join him at Old Trafford in the summer.
